Ceramic Coating Technology

How does a ceramic coating work?

DuraSlic vehicle coatings are based on award winning NanoSlic Ceramic Technology. Born in the advanced electronic’s industry, the technology was originally developed to provide outstanding hydrophobicity and oleophobicity in an abrasion resistant coating. During curing a highly non-polar contact surface forms that repels water, water-based fluids, oils, and other chemicals. These attributes drove us to the automotive industry where our ceramic coating offers both significant protection and ease of maintenance, but also helps your car remain ridiculously good looking with high gloss.

What makes DuraSlic ceramic coatings special?

DuraSlic is primarily composed of proprietary silica-based polymers. As such, DuraSlic materials are inherently capable of maintaining advanced ceramic coating protective properties under extreme conditions.

DuraSlic coatings are resistant to most solvents and will be unaffected by a wide range in pH. Ultimately, this means installers and vehicle owners can have confidence our ceramic coatings handle whatever bugs, grease and grime the road throws at it.

Because 10H hardness is achieved in most DuraSlic formulations, scratch resistance is improved. By incorporating specific functional groups to the polymer, various properties can be achieved including ambient temperature curing, heat-induced crosslinking and UV resistance. In addition, interesting and useful surface effects have been achieved such as DuraSlic’s characteristic hydrophobicity and oleophobicity. DS 1500 Xtreme is the world’s most hydrophobic and oleophobic ceramic coating technology.

Low surface energy, low roll off angle, low coefficient of friction and ceramic structure make DuraSlic a unique nanocoating. DuraSlic coating technology offers many of the benefits of “advanced ceramics” but does not require a high cost, multi-step process that includes “firing.”

DuraSlic can be applied to a wide variety of vehicle surfaces with our trademark ease of application. Surface prep is hard work, we don’t want you fighting a coating as well as micro-scratches. The required thickness of the coating will depend on the application and the desired result. One layer of DuraSlic provides all the ceramic coating protection you need, but added gloss comes with added layers.  Your call.

Generally, the coating thickness of a single layer will be 150-200 nanometers (nm) DuraSlic protects and enhances surfaces of metals, glass, ceramics, polymers and many plastics.

It is scratch resistant and creates a surface that is easy to clean. Curing takes place at room temperature or can be accelerated with heat.

Outstanding Ceramic Coating Technology Properties:

  • Contact Angle: 105°/water and 64°/n-hexadecane
  • Sliding Angle: 9.1o /water 1.4o /IPA
  • Temperature Resistance: 350° F Continuous/450° F Intermittent
  • Pencil Hardness: 10H

Revolutionary Hybrid Coating

DuraSlic’s unique hybrid structure and true ceramic coating technology composition prevents chemical, mechanical and environmental degradation when applied to many surfaces. This means significantly longer protection than other coatings. DuraSlic protects from scuffs and scratches, water stains, chemicals, tar, corrosion, and harmful UV. DuraSlic can best be defined as a hybrid coating, combining the benefits of a ceramic coating and a nanocoating.

DuraSlic’s unique hybrid structure works in three ways:

  • Forms a highly hydrophobic and oleophobic contact surface
  • Forms and inert, high performance binder polymer layer
  • Forms a dense network of strong chemical bonds to the substrate

Hydrophobic and Oleophobic Coating

DuraSlic coatings form a ceramic hybrid structure during the curing process. In the case of DS 1500 Xtreme the contact surface achieves a contact angle of 105o with water and 63o with n-hexadecane, similar to Teflon. This makes it an ideal permanent coating to protect vehicle surfaces, from water, water-based fluids, high and low pH, oils and tar.
